15 Feb VicHealth video project: Why are teenagers losing interest in sport?
Did you know that 9 out of 10 young people aged between 12-17 years of age are not getting enough exercise as per the Australian Physical Activity Guidelines from the Australian Department of Health?
We were asked by VicHealth to create this insightful video which explores why teenagers are giving up sport. Several teenagers are interviewed in their final years of schooling and speak very openly about their personal circumstances and insecurities and provide solutions on how to make sport more engaging to them.
The good news is that VicHealth is working on a scheme that will support and help teenagers in need to create daily physical activity habits early in life. They will look to invest $6 million over the next three years and partner with a number of state or national sporting organisations.
This program will have a tailored focus on teenagers who face health inequities, those who don’t engage in regular physical activity and those that aren’t interested in participating in existing traditional sport offerings.
We look forward to seeing how this goes and wish them all the best.
